We (I) Have to Go Back

It took me a long time (well into adulthood) to realize life is too short to read shitty books and that I can, in fact, stop reading. Even if it's only been 5 pages. Even if there's only 5 pages left. Fuck it.

In honor of that, here is a brief overview of shows I have not finished. Maybe I'm not in the mood (yet.) Maybe I'll never finish them.

The Wire. I have started and failed twice. Can't get past the first few episodes because they are horrendously boring. However, I've read that everybody thinks that, and once you get past the beginning, it gets really good. I do have faith and one day I will come back to it for a third time. Although people also like to joke about the "white people season" so maybe I'll quit a third time.

The Sopranos. Last year I went on a "I need to watch all the toxic white men prestige tv series of the early 2000s" binge. Mad Men and Breaking Bad I succeeded with. The Sopranos not so much. Aside from its cultural relevance that many are aware of even if one hasn't seen it, I've also just read a lot in various books about HBO and tv in general. Maybe one day. *plays Journey while I stream something else*

Better Call Saul. I will probably try again at a later time. As referenced above, I watched Breaking Bad and loved it--I legit watched every episode in 8 days. That left me with a huge sad hole in my life and it was also the month leading up to me being on antidepressants so I think it was just too soon to start BCS. The first season and some change that I did get through, I wasn't a huge fan of the slowness. But some fans like it more than BB. Go figure.

Riverdale. Mehhh. Like all twentysomethings who turn into thirtysomethings and can't quite give up the CW, I watched the first few seasons as they aired but gave up after it got too cray cray and I stopped caring. I recently tried again because it has ended and I heard that you're supposed to embrace the cray cray and that the show totally knows what it is, and I respect that. Perhaps it wasn't the right time, because I didn't get done with the first season before I took it off Continue Watching. Do they get superpowers at one point? Christ.

Lost. Again, watched it a bit as it aired because literally the whole world was watching when it first started but gave up because I was in high school and we didn't have a DVR and I had other shit to watch, man. And then I cheated years later when I skipped all the middle stuff and watched the series finale because I do love me some series finales. Aside from being the subject of one of my favorite running jokes in This is 40 ("I DON'T GET WORKED UP OVER MAD MEN!") I was intrigued to start it from the beginning because of how controversial it all is. Didn't make it through season one. I kind of care about those people but I don't.
